Today is Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) —a day to celebrate transgender people and their accomplishments, as well as raise awareness about the discrimination they face. This day is important to recognize the resilience and strength of members of the transgender community, and we want to take a moment to honor them in our workplace.

What Is Transgender Day of Visibility?

TDOV was founded in 2009 by US-based trans activist Rachel Crandall. The purpose of this day is to bring attention to the achievements and successes of transgender individuals around the world, while also raising awareness about the discrimination that still exists today. On this day, everyone is encouraged to recognize both the challenges faced by transgender people, as well as celebrate their successes.

How Can We Celebrate TDOV?

There are many ways you can show your support for TDOV in your office environment! Here are some ideas:

  • Hang posters or banners around your workplace that depict diversity and inclusion
  • Invite a speaker from within or outside your organization who identifies as transgender
  • Put together a video featuring members of your organization talking about why TDOV is important
  • Send out an email acknowledging TDOV and encouraging employees to take part in activities
  • Make sure all materials related to gender identity and expression are up-to-date and accurate

TDOV is an important date for us all, regardless of our own gender identity or sexual orientation. By celebrating it each year in our office space, we can create a more harmonious work environment where everyone feels accepted and appreciated for who they are. Let’s come together on March 31st and acknowledge this special day with respect, enthusiasm, understanding – and lots of celebration!
